We joke and talk about the “you’re not immune to propaganda” but the fact that all people know about Pornhub is their half ass Pr stunts and not all the terrible things they do is def because y’all cultivate dashes that prioritize weird feel good stories and not voices of marginalized and targeted communities like sex workers. No ones immune to propaganda but the way some of you seek it out is wild.

Ok I’d love to hear about some of the terrible things PornHub has done. You’re clearly aware of things the rest of us are not. Care to immunize us against this particular propaganda?

Pornhub and it’s parent company, Mindgeek (which, including Pornhub, has aggregated a MASSIVE number of porn streaming sites), pirate content from people in the adult entertainment industry constantly.

Widespread piracy, taking over studios, and poor treatment of workers has led to a decline in the wages of the people working in that industry, their livelihood, and their safety.

They’ve also launched deceptive PR stunts in the past in attempts to humanize themselves and appeal to progressive audiences, like when they bought a bunch of slowplow trucks to help Boston out in a blizzard when they couldn’t get proper aid, and the internet went nuts for it.

Except that didn’t actually happen and nobody seems to be able to provide any evidence it actually happened. Not even a representative from Pornhub, who who couldn’t even verify they were a real person.

It should probably go without saying that a porn conglomerate monopoly with a history of nothing but exploitation on every level eyeing a social media platform (that just got finished purging its NSFW content, and still struggles with getting rid of it) consisting mostly of young people is a BAD IDEA and should make you VERY CONCERNED.

But I’ll go ahead and say it anyway.
